Extreme guitarist Nuno Bettencourt honoured in his hometown in Portugal
Extreme guitarist Nuno Bettencourt has had the opportunity to tour all over the world. He has obtained a #1 hit on the U.S.’s Billboard Hot 100 with Extreme‘s blockbuster song “More Than Words” and another top five hit on the same chart with the track “Hole Hearted.” His band Extreme has sold millions of albums all over the world. Yet, Bettencourt appears to be most proud of being recognized in his hometown of Praia da Vitória, Terceira, Azores, Portugal.
The following message was posted on Bettencourt‘s Facebook page today:
Yes, I have been blessed with so many rewards. Gold And Platinum albums. Allowed, over the years, to perform to millions around the globe.
I am not telling you this to brag about these BIG accomplishments. But more so to tell you hat it’s the SMALL accomplishments that have the most meaning for me. And this one here, is one of those moments. They have honored me here in my birth home of Praia da Vitoria, with this monument. I cannot tell you how much this means to me and my family. Especially my mom. She was not here physically on this day, but I could feel her everywhere. It was a very emotional day for me. And I am so humbled and honored.
I was born on one of nine small islands in the middle of the Atlantic. The island of Terçeira. The Açores. Portugal.
That little white house with the blue trim in the back had 2 bedrooms, housed 12 of us. Mom, Dad, 6 boys, 4 girls. Me, being the youngest.
Music was the backbone of this home. My mother was the light and the heart of this home.
Joáo, Paulo, Helena, Jorge, Luis, Teresa, Fatima, Roberto and Ivone… This day is for all of you… This is for us… I could have never accomplished all that I have done, without you. Without our family. Without our love for each other.
I have never felt so proud… I am truly blessed.
