MONEY TALKS BULLSHIT WALKS
Released on September 27, 2019 (Mars Music Productions)
There are some bands that when you hear just one song, you know that you have to get the entire album. There’s only been a couple of these bands this year and one of them is Madhouse. After hearing “Boom Boob Shaker”, I knew that Madhouse‘s debut album was a must buy. As it turns out, I was correct in my initial assessment as the whole album rocks from start to finish.
Madhouse may well be the epitome of what Sleaze Roxx is all about. Sleazy almost juvenile lyrics (just check out the song titles) reminiscent of Steel Panther, dirty guitar licks like Mötley Crüe were capable of more than 30 years ago, non-stop action throughout the songs, great melodies, lots of gang vocals, lyrics that are hard to decipher aside from the easy to sing along to choruses, all the band members with their best ’80s style wear, etc… Need I say more? While many bands try to capture the look and raunchiness of the ’80s, not many can back it up with some good ’80s style music. In the case of Madhouse, the band members — all six of them — back it up with some great music and songwriting. It’s like these guys studied the sleaziest bands from the ’80s and came up with their own authentic sound while retaining all of the great elements of the sleazy ’80s.
Madhouse actually remind me a lot of Italian sleaze rockers HoneyBombs who put out a great album titled Wet Girls And Other Funny Tales two years ago except that Madhouse definitely aren’t pushing the envelope as much and have way less modern overtones than HoneyBombs did on their record. The result is absolutely fantastic as Madhouse — who hail from the smaller country of Austria — just keep dishing out one sleazy rocker after another. If you like the first single “Boom Boob Shaker” — and what is there not to like — odds are that you’ll like most if not all of the songs on the record.
What sets apart Madhouse from the rest of the pack is that they have two singers in the band — or at least for the album — as there are six people listed in the CD booked but oddly, only five band members listed on their Facebook page and website (perhaps the second singer Lonewoolf got the boot?). The brainchild in the band is unquestionably guitarist Mikky Stixx who wrote the music to all of the songs except one and has co-writing credits for the lyrics on about half the songs. Throw in that Stixx produced, mixed and mastered the album and the man should be receiving the lion’s share of the credit for this sensational slab of sleazy tunes. It would have been nice for Stixx to have a slightly more original name but at least you know what kind of music that he is aiming for simply with his name Mikky Stixx.
I could go track by track and tell you how each song is so good but I’ll let whomever has yet to hear this band check it out for themselves. Money Talks Bullshit Walks should be in every card carrying sleaze rock fan’s discography. End of story.
