AC/DC CLAIM FIRST UK NUMBER ONE ALBUM IN 28 YEARS:
October 26, 2008
AC/DC have claimed their first UK Number One album in 28 years with ‘Black Ice’, which shot to the top despite no digital format being available.
The Aussie veterans’ first chart-topper since 1980’s ‘Back In Black’ outsold closest rivals Kaiser Chiefs by 2/1 – the Leeds outfit’s third LP ‘Off With Their Heads’ going in at Number Two. Keane, who filled last week’s top slot with ‘Perfect Symmetry’, drop to Number Six.
In the singles chart, Pink’s three-week reign at the summit has been ended by Girls Aloud, who go straight to the top with ‘The Promise’.
It’s the five-piece’s third chart-topper – the others being 2002 debut single ‘The Sound Of The Underground’ and 2004’s cover of ‘ ‘I’ll Stand By You’.
The UK Top Ten singles are:
1. Girls Aloud – ‘The Promise’
2. Pink – ‘So What’
3. The Guru Josh Project – ‘Infinity 2008’
4. Kings Of Leon – ‘Sex On Fire’
