AC/DC Fans Launch Fundraising Drive For Bon Scott Tribute Statue
May 14, 2013
Community group DD8 Music is looking for AC/DC fans to help donate in order to erect a Bon Scott statue in his home town Kirriemuir. DD8 Music are hoping to raise £50,000 via a Kickstarter campaign at www.kickstarter.com/projects/dd8music/bon-scott-statue-kirriemuir and are offering several different pledge packs based on the amount of money donated.
Ronald Belford Scott, better know to the world as Bon Scott, was the powerhouse singer behind AC/DC’s greatest hits, and arguably the greatest rock’n’roll front man of all time. He spent his formative years in the small Scottish town of Kirriemuir. Local community group DD8 Music plans to honour the memory of this rock and roll legend by erecting a bronze statue in the town. The town has already honoured Bon with a memorial stone and a street named after him, and would now like to go one step further with a permanent monument to the great man.
DD8 Music has commissioned renowned sculptor John McKenna to produce a work of art that exemplifies Bon’s spirit and his Scottish roots. The design itself will be kept secret until the unveiling which is planned to take place on Saturday May 3rd, 2014, at the annual Bon Scott Festival
DD8 Music is a not-for-profit community group based in Kirriemuir. The group is run by a dedicated team of volunteers and is behind the annual Bon Scott Festival that has been running in Kirriemuir since 2006. The festival has been growing year on year, and all profits go back into community music projects, including the DD8 Music recording studio.
The team are all huge fans of Bon and his music, and the statue plans are a labour of love for them. They have been working hard to make this a reality for a few years now, and are incredibly excited that the project is finally rolling along.
