Ace Frehley states that drugs and alcohol were his downfall

In a recent interview with New Zealand’s Stuff, former KISS guitarist Ace Frehley spoke about his time in KISS and how he didn’t miss putting make-up on for every show, and the impact of drugs and alcohol had on him.

The following are excerpts from the Stuff article / interview:

Frehley‘s time in the rock industry has followed the same ol’ path littered with drugs, alcohol and drama. He blames it on the hotel room service.

Most of his time touring, his “countless” shows across the globe, is a blur to Frehley.

“All I know is most of the time I really had no idea where I was. We went from city to city so fast. You know, pretty much you spend most of the time in a hotel or the venue. They all pretty much look the same, so it became a blur,” he recalls….

Frehley talks openly about his rock ‘n’ roll years spent high and drunk.

Frehley says he went “crazy”. He remembers a time when it was good if he could string a sentence together or knew where he was heading to. Looking back, he describes being more or less herded around the world.

But he’s been 11 years sober. He had no other choice, he says. “Musicians resort to drugs and alcohol, that was my downfall,” he says.”
