Ace Frehley thinks Gene and Paul look like idiots for some of things they previously said about him
Former KISS guitarist Ace Frehley was recently interviewed by Ultimate Guitar and spoke about working on a few songs off his new solo album Spaceman with former KISS bandmate Gene Simmons.
It was pointed to Frehley that he’s always the one reaching out to Gene and Paul [Stanley] to which he replied: “At this point, I could use all the help I can get. Just the fact they responded was very admirable. Gene came down and we wrote two songs in three or four hours.”
On whether it felt like the KISS days again when working with Simmons, Frehley opined: “Yeah. Whenever I’m around those guys it feels like the old times. We have so much history together and all the negative stuff is pretty much put aside. I let that roll off my back. When I got sober, my sponsor told me you’ve got to let all the resentments go if you wanna get sober.” Frehley continued, “I forgave them for all the nasty stuff that went down over the years because it would dampen my productivity.”
When it was pointed out that Simmons and Stanley said some horrendous things about him in the past, Frehley advised: Now they look like idiots because they said things like “I’m unemployable and I’m not dependable.” I’ve been sober for 12 years and obviously [they were wrong]. But then again I was on drugs and drinking when they were doing this. I don’t even think about that stuff. I’m the kind of guy that focuses on today and looks forward towards the future and I never get too hung up on what’s happened in the past.”
It was noted to Frehley how amazing it was that he turned his life around to which he replied: “I forgive people who said things negatively about me because I can win ’em over these days. Let’s face it, six months ago when Paul was asked, “Is Ace gonna be involved in the last tour?” he would say, “Absolutely not.”” In terms of what Stanley would say today, Frehley opined: “Then a week ago when he was asked the same question he goes, “I wouldn’t rule it out.”” Frehley also added, “So that’s a big change.”
Frehley also commented on how he’s able to foresee how things might are going to go as he stated: “Let’s see what happens. I have a good feeling about the future and I can see things. I’ve always had the power of foresight. I get glimpses of the future for three seconds and usually when I get those glimpse they happen and come true.”
