ALICE COOPER SELLING A 1955 MERCEDES-BENZ FOR CHARITY:
January 9, 2008
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Randy Johnson and rock legend Alice Cooper will each sell a vehicle at the Barrett-Jackson Auction Company’s 37th Annual Collector Car Event from Jan. 12-20, 2008, in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Johnson will sell his Ferrari Fly Yellow 1939 Ford two-door roadster (Lot #987) while Cooper will part with his 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing custom re-creation (Lot #1322). Hailed as “The World’s Greatest Collector Car Events,” the Scottsdale auction will feature over 1100 of the world’s finest collector vehicles and lavish lifestyle events. SPEED will broadcast live-coverage of all six auction days.
“These superstar Phoenix-area residents are avid automotive enthusiasts who have experienced first-hand the electricity that Barrett-Jackson brings to Scottsdale each January,” said Craig Jackson, Chairman/CEO of the Barrett-Jackson Auction Company. “Randy and Alice have each consigned a spectacular collector car. With their star provenance, the ’39 Ford and the Mercedes-Benz 300SL re-creation would be impressive additions to any top collection.”
Johnson’s powerful 1939 Ford matches his intensity on the mound with a 468cid Chevy big block V8 engine sporting aluminum heads and dual quads to pump out well over 500 horsepower. The stunning street rod also features an Air Ride suspension, power trunk, removable top, custom billet wheels, hand-painted graphics and a custom yellow and tan interior with ultra suede inserts.
Fit for the king of “shock rock” himself, Cooper’s 1955 Mercedes-Benz underwent a frame-off re-creation and features an all-new GM drivetrain, power steering, 4-wheel power disc brakes, air conditioning and a 5.3-liter engine with automatic transmission. Cooper’s personal touches include fully functional power Gullwing doors and the custom platinum silver and black paint scheme. The winning bidder will also receive a set of his personal Callaway golf clubs and an autographed guitar.
