Chris Cornell And Timbaland Collaborate
CHRIS CORNELL AND TIMBALAND COLLABORATE:
March 30, 2008
Former Soundgarden and Audioslave’s Chris Cornell has completed work on this third solo album with urban producer Timbaland behind the desk.
Speaking to Ryan Seacrest on radio last week, Cornell announced, “My third solo record is produced by Timbaland”.
Timbaland joined the call to say, “that Chris is under Mosley Music which is my label. To me, I had to measure all the body of work I have done in my career. This has to be the best body of work I have done in my career”.
Timbaland ranks it above work he has done with Justin Timberlake and Nelly.
The sessions have been fast and furious. Cornell has not shortlisted the songlist yet but says, “We have done like 20. It seemed to be easy for us. The first song we were getting to know each other and it was one of the best songs I’ve done. This is different than anything I have ever done”.
He says that working with Timbaland worked because, “I come from an indie rock world. If you have a producer who is not a musician and not a songwriter that is really someone who twists knobs and can tell you if a song is too long or too short or needs to be more aggressive, well Tim is a songwriter, so I was working him in a collaboration like we were a band. The whole album musically is a pretty radical departure for me. It is the highlight of my career”.
The record will come fast off the back off last year’s ‘Carry On’. That second solo album from Cornell was released in June last year. “I’m mixing it now. It will be ready in a couple of weeks,” Timbaland says.
The album is yet-to-be titled.
