D.O.A. To Release 13th Studio Album On June 8th

April 27, 2010

D.O.A., Canada’s punk legends, are set to release their 13th studio album “Talk – Action = 0” on June 8th via Sudden Death Records – www.suddendeath.com. On this album, the band goes back to its early roots and takes a few notes from their first two classic albums: “Something Better Change” and “Hardcore 81”. “Talk – Action = 0” was produced by chief punk Joe Shithead Keithley and Chon (Live Free or Die).

Keithley, Canada’s godfather of punk, has teamed with his cronies Floor Tom Jones (drums) and Dirty Dan Sedan (bass) to come up with one of D.O.A.’s hardest hitting albums to date. On this lucky 13th full length, there’s plenty of what one might expect from the boys: power, politics and humor.

Cover ArtThe album opens with the blistering track That’s Why I Am An Atheist, followed up by the Eddie Cochran inspired Rebel Kind. If you have ever doubted that D.O.A. has always been a barometer of the times we live in, check out the angry anthem Don’t Bank On A Bank and the all too timely I Live In A Car…

Further to that point, the track The R.C.M.P. explores the misdeeds of Canada’s national police force. To mix things up, the band includes an ode to Star Trek with the song Captain Kirk, Spock, Scotty and Bones, and there are sizzling covers of The Times They Are A-Changin’ and That’s Amore.

D.O.A. burst onto Vancouver’s music scene in 1978 and have been rocking the world, making people think, and sticking it to the man ever since. After they released their first snarling piece of vinyl, the infamous Disco Sucks 7″ EP, it became an underground hit and opened the doors to international prominence, riots, rip off record companies and legions of fans.

In 1981, D.O.A. made the term “hardcore” their own and pushed it into the common vernacular. With the release of the legendary album Hardcore 81 and subsequent tours by that name, D.O.A. became known as the fathers of hardcore. The band has always worn its politics on its sleeves and done a lot of rabble rousing along the way. D.O.A. has also worked hard at helping out those that really need help over the years. They’ve played benefits for: Rape Relief, anti-racism, anti-globalization, OXFAM, first nation’s rights, anti-censorship, and environmental causes, amongst many others.

D.O.A.’s people power philosophy and sound has been forged by Keithley. His powerful songwriting, singing, guitar playing and stage charisma have always anchored D.O.A. Joe has run for the Green Party three times in Vancouver and his book about D.O.A. entitled I Shithead – A Life In Punk, went on to become a Canadian best seller.

Interesting D.O.A. Facts:
