Drummer Nicko McBrain does not see Iron Maiden hanging it up anytime soon

Iron Maiden drummer Nicko McBrain was recently interviewed by Classic Rock at Team Rock and asked about whether he thinks much about life after Maiden. McBrain replied: I’ve thought about it, I’ll admit that. But I can’t see us hanging it up any time soon. Let’s get one thing straight: we would never become a parody of ourselves. But it’s my job to drive Maiden, and one day I’m not going to be able to do it any more.”

In terms of how long he has in Maiden, McBrain opined: “Ideally… ten years? Nah, don’t see that. Imagine me trying to play Run To The Hills at fucking seventy-three years old! So I don’t know, mate. But I’m planning on bowing out gracefully.”

With respect to how he is bearing these days, the drummer stated: “I’ve got to be honest, the older I get, the harder it becomes to do this. At least when I was drinking I didn’t feel it, except for the hangovers… I feel good, actually. But I needed to start looking after my body a bit more. I’ve started to get a bit of arthritis in my hands. I’ve got to be fit. I’ve taken a lot of inspiration from the way that Bruce has fought his way back to health. He’s a strong man, Bruce.”
