Ex-Stryper bassist Tim Gaines states that he is playing in three different “supergroups”
Former Stryper bassist Timothy Gaines was interviewed by Hall Laurel for the book Soundtrack of Our Youth: History of Hair Metal Music, which was recently released and is available in Kindle and paperback formats.
Gaines is currently recording a new album with Faithsedge, which also includes singer Giancarlo Floridia, guitarist Alex De Rosso (ex-Dokken) and drummer Matt Starr (ex-Ace Frehley, Mr. Big).
In terms of Gaines‘ upcoming plans with Faithsedge, the bassist responded: “I’ve known Giancarlo Floridia for many years. I became involved in 2015 when he asked me to play bass on the album. It did well in the Japanese and European markets. The other guys are all top notch players but there is a humbleness about us and nobody really has an ego problem. It’s great to play in a band with great people. We are in the middle of recording a follow-up album that we hope to release later in 2018.”
Back in September 2017, Gaines had announced that he was working in a “super group of sorts.” Gaines was asked to spill the beans on his supergroup of ’80s rockers to which he replied (with slight edits):
“Funny, I am in several “Supergroups” at the moment besides Faithsedge.
Locally, where I live in Phoenix I am playing with a bunch of great musicians in a band called Sons Of Metal. Features Bret Kaiser (Madam X) [on] vocals, John Aquilino (Icon) [on] guitar, Steve Conelly (Flotsam & Jetsam) [on] guitar, Dwayne Miller (Keel) [on] drums. We are doing 80’s metal covers and writing songs. Stay tuned for that one.
I am also part of a new supergroup in the studio right now called Of Gods & Monsters, featuring Kevin Goocher (Omen) [on] vocals, Joey Tafolla [on] guitars and Deen Castronovo on drums. We also hope to have an album out later in 2018.”
