Ex-Warrant guitarist Billy Morris states current Warrant guys should mention Jani Lane once in a while
Former Warrant and current Tuff guitarist Billy Morris was recently interviewed by Greg Troyan of Lipstick Generation for Sleaze Roxx (interview to be posted soon) and was asked at the end of the interview whether he had any other messages for the Sleaze Roxx readers.
Morris advised: “I just want to say thank you, Greg, for interviewing me. I will end this saying rest in peace to my friend Jani Lane. He made my rock n roll dreams true. Whenever I do a concert and sing one of the songs that he wrote, I always make mention that Jani is looking down on me. Jani was the songwriter. Long live Jani Lane. And I think the guys in Warrant ought to mention that once in a while because he wrote some damn good songs for those guys.”
Wikipedia indicates that Lane is credited as the songwriter for practically all of the songs on Warrant‘s first three studio albums — Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich (1989), Cherry Pie (1990) and Dog Eat Dog (1992).
Morris played lead and rhythm guitar in Warrant from 2000 to 2004 along classic line-up band members Lane (vocals), Erik Turner (guitar) and Jerry Dixon (bass) during which time the band released the mainly covers album Under The Influence in 2001. Billy Morris and The Sunset Strip released their debut album Holdin’ All The Aces via HighVolMusic on August 24, 2018.
Wikipedia states the following about the Under The Influence record (with slight edits): “Under The Influence is the sixth studio album by American rock band Warrant released in 2001. The album is a covers album with two original new tracks, “Face” and “Sub Human”. The band toured in support of the album with Poison in the summer of 2001 on the Glam Slam Metal Tour which was cut 3 weeks short due to back injuries sustained by Poison bassist Bobby Dall.
The cover of AC/DC‘s “Down Payment Blues” features guitarist Billy Morris on lead vocals. Morris was the band’s newest lead guitarist, replacing Keri Kelli, who was only in the band for 8 months after replacing Rick Steier in early 2000. The album also features Mike Fasano, who became the band’s newest in a long line of drummers.
The album is also the last to feature vocalist Jani Lane, as the band’s next release – Born Again features Black ‘n Blue vocalist Jaime St. James.”
