Great White were looking for a great singer when they chose Terry Ilous to replace Jack Russell
Great White guitarist and founder Mark Kendall was interviewed by Hall Laurel for the book Soundtrack of Our Youth: History of Hair Metal Music, which was recently released and is available in Kindle and paperback formats.
Kendall was asked why Great White ended top selecting Terry Ilous as Jack Russell‘s replacement since he had a different voice than the band’s original singer. Kendall replied: “Terry was an awesome singer with an incredible range. We weren’t looking for another Jack. We were looking for a great singer and Terry fit perfectly. The guy never hits a bad note!”
It appears that the interview with Kendall in the book Soundtrack of Our Youth: History of Hair Metal Music may have been done prior to Great White replacing Ilous with singer Mitch Malloy in July 2018 and apparently blindsiding Ilous in the process.
In terms of being a Christian, Kendall advised: “I’ve been going to church since I was 12 years old. I turned my life over to God completely November 2, 2008. My way wasn’t working, so I decided to start living how HE would like me to live. My life changed in an instant!!”
You can read the rest of the interview with Kendall at the Hair Metal Music‘s Facebook page or the book Soundtrack of Our Youth: History of Hair Metal Music.
