Guitarist Benny Rhynedance reminisces on 30th year anniversary of final mixing for Wildside’s debut
Back in May 1992, WildSide consisting of lead vocalist Drew Hannah, guitarists Brent Woods and Benny Rhynedance, bassist Marc Simon and drummer Jimmy Darby released their sensational debut album Under the Influence. Rhynedance who runs a WildSide page on Facebook posted a message reminiscing about the band finishing the mixing on its debut album 30 years ago.
The following message was posted on WildSide’s Facebook page back on November 1, 2021:
“30 years ago today : On This Day in WildSide History…
Friday night November 1st 1991 in Hollywood. Final mixing had finally been completed for the band’s debut Capitol Records album, Under The Influence.
The band and recording team had a celebration dinner at the famed Hollywood landmark Yamashiro Restaurant, on the hill just above the Chinese Theater on Hollywood Blvd. It was fresh sushi, great teriyaki, and historic Hollywood views for all in attendance. Great night, and we were all confidently anticipating a hopeful future for the band in the music business.
It took 5+ years of dues paying in Hollywood on the Sunset Strip mid-80’s music scene. After nearly 9 long months of recording in 1991 at the famed A&M Studios, The Sound Factory, and Eddie Van Halen‘s home 5150 Studio, WildSide was ready to rock the world.
UTI was produced by Andy Johns (Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Van Halen, Joe Satriani) and mixed by Steve Thompson & Michael Barbiero (GNR, Dokken, Metallica…) The best of the best worked on this Capitol Records debut.
Under The Influence would be released 7 months later in May of 1992, just in time for grunge to turn the music industry upside down… So ya wanna be a rockstar…”
