Helix Debut “Champagne Communist” Music Video

July 29, 2013

Helix have posted a video for the song “Champagne Communist”, from their 2011 EP ‘Skin In The Game’. The video was put together by former Helix guitarist Brent Doerner, who retired from the band last September.

Regarding the song Helix frontman Brian Vollmer stated, “I got the chorus from Sue Anne Levy’s column in the Toronto Sun. Sue Anne has been a crusader for fiscal responsibility in Toronto for many years, having first written about Toronto’s dysfunctional city hall and now as a reporter at Queen’s Park detailing all the scandals of the present Liberal government.”

Best known for the athem “Rock You”, Helix has been a staple of the Canadian heavy metal scene since the mid ’70s. Vollmer is currently involved in the Metal On Ice project, an upcoming book that focuses on tales from Canada’s hard rock and heavy metal heroes.

The book’s author Sean Kelly, frontman of his own band Crash Kelly, has decided to release an accompanying music EP that will bring together the voices from ‘Metal On Ice’ in the way you like to hear them best. The songs you love re-envisioned by the original artists such as Carl Dixon (Coney Hatch), Brian Vollmer (Helix), Lee Aaron, Darby Mills (Headpins), Nick Walsh (Slik Toxik) and Russ Dwarf (Killer Dwarfs). A fundraising campaign has been set up at www.pledgemusic.com/projects/metalonice in order to raise money to complete the EP.
