Italian TV video from Van Halen for single “So This Is Love” surfaces 40 years later

Van Halen fans are in for a real treat as a 1981 video of the band’s single “So This Is Love” that aired on Italian television about 40 years ago has now surfaced. The video captures frontman David Lee Roth, guitarist Eddie Van Halen, bassist Michael Anthony and drummer Alex Van Halen playing alongside dinosaur statues on a cloudy and foggy day.

The YouTube caption for the video indicates:

“At the end of 1981 Van Halen filmed some videoclip settled in a Jurassic park in Italy, the “Prehistoric Park” of Rivolta D’Adda (near Milan) The band was engaged in a European tour for promoting “Fair Warning” These videos aired on Italian state television, RAI 1, during a TV show called “Happy Circus“. Van Halen Italia Fan Club found those video clips and shares them with fans all over the world.”

Sleaze Roxx stated the following in its review of Van Halen‘s 1981 album Fair Warning and specifically the song “So This Is Love”: “Whoa! Anthony and Alex set the pace and are locked in loaded in an opening groove. Is it me or does the sound drop and then picks up by the chorus — which is a great chorus as a matter of fact! Dave writes some real cool lyrics and Ed plays a real great clean sound but man, that solo at the end is one of my favs of his! Classic!”
