Jason Newsted reactivates Newsted and announces band’s first show in 10 years
A decade ago, former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted had a heavy metal band bearing his last name (Newsted) that had released a promising EP titled Metal and a fantastic full-length album titled Heavy Metal Music. Both records were released in 2013 and Newsted seemed to be riding high as they were part of Megadeth‘s Gigantic Tour that summer. However, the band seemed to fade away very quickly after that.
Newsted are now back with the three original band members consisting of Jason Newsted on lead vocals and bass, Jessie Farnsworth on guitar and Jesus Mendez Jr. on drums along with new lead guitarist Humberto Perez.
The group is scheduled to play its first show in 10 years on May 20, 2023 at Revolution Live in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA.
In an interview with Billboard back in August 2016, Jason Newsted had mentioned that he had already written another Newsted album. The bassist indicated: “I was trying to take on too much stuff at once. You can only do so much and make it work right,… I won’t call it over ’cause I did write a whole ‘nother record, but it just hasn’t been put together. It hasn’t been recorded all the way. It’s not ready for the people. That’s something that’s just on the back burner right now.”
