Jimmy Page Gives Olympics A Whole Lotta Love

JIMMY PAGE GIVES OLYMPICS A WHOLE LOTTA LOVE:

August 24, 2008

China was given a dose of Led Zep overnight when Jimmy Page, the guitarist for the legendary band, performed the Led Zeppelin classic ‘Whole Lotta Love’ at the closing ceremony for the Olympics in Beijing.

Popstar Leona Lewis sang while Page played.

Lewis had to modify the lyrics for the show. In the original, sung by Robert Plant, Plant sang, “I’m gonna give you every inch of my love”. Lewis sang “every bit” instead.

The 8-minute piece started with a London double-decker bus driven into Bird’s Nest stadium, with London-Beijing-London written on the side.

As the top of the bus opened, Page kicked off his signature riff on his Gibson guitar.

Unfortunately, there were some serious sound problems and a lot of Page’s intro was drowned out.

Page was picked to perform during the handover of the Olympics from China to England.

London will host the 2012 Olympic Games.
