Former W.A.S.P. and Sin bassist Rik Fox continues to share some interesting tidbits from back in the day as the bassist recently shared that the song “We Got Your Rock”, which was covered by Frehley’s Comet and Sin, was first offered to and rejected by Joan Jett & The Blackhearts.
The following message was posted on Fox‘s Facebook page yesterday:
“She turned down “We Got Your Rock” by Jay and the Americans songwriter Marty Kupersmith, because she thought it sounded too much like I Love Rock and Roll. It wound up in both our hands (SIN) and Ace Frehley. Frehley‘s manager heard our version over the phone and freaked out because our version was MUCH heavier than Ace‘s and they hurried to get his version out before we could. Ace’s manager admitted that our version blew his away. Jett‘s loss was our gain.”
The track “We Got Your Rock” ended up on Frehley’s Comet‘s debut self-titled album, which was released in 1987. Wikipedia lists Marty Kupersmith and Ace Frehley as the songwriters for that song.
