Joe Perry’s Injury Won’t Affect Aerosmith Tour

July 19, 2010

Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton has confirmed guitarist Joe Perry will join the band on its U.S. tour later this month, just days after he was injured in a motorcycle accident.

Perry sustained unknown injuries after his motorcycle was struck by a car at traffic lights in Taunton, Massachusetts on Thursday. The rocker, 59, was taken by ambulance to the nearby Morton Hospital and Medical Center where he was treated and released.

However, Hamilton insists the band’s previously announced U.S. tour, which is scheduled to begin on July 23rd in Oakland, California, will go on as planned – and Perry is expected to take the stage. In an interview with Boston’s Fox 25 News radio program on Friday, Hamilton said: “He’s doing good. He’s a bit sore today, but he’s well, and we’re looking forward to heading out to the West Coast (on) Wednesday to start doing some touring in the States.”

Perry has suffered from knee pain for years and had a total knee replacement operation in 2008. The driver who allegedly struck Perry, 62-year-old Linda O’Brien, has been cited for following a vehicle too closely.
