March 20, 2008
ASCAP has just added Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora and Steve Miller to their lineup of songwriters who will be part of the I Create Music Expo in April. They join Jackson Browne for a special series of interviews.
The three-day expo for songwriting and composing is part of the weeklong ASCAP events that bring together songwriters, composers, publishers and industry leaders. Events include the ASCAP Foundation/Disney Musical Theatre workshop; Stephen Schwartz Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremoney and reception; the 25th annual ASCAP pop music awards honoring Steve Miller and Lionel Richie; and ASCAP’s general membership meeting.
The Los Angeles City Council will issue a proclamation to declare the week of April 6-12 as ASCAP I Create Music Week in recognition of ASCAP’s plans to educate, showcase, connect and celebrate the voice of the music creator.
“Los Angeles is an important global cultural center,” says Marilyn Bergman, ASCAP chairman/president. “Its deep musical heritage is respected by all of our ASCAP members. We’re honored to receive this recognition from the City of Los Angeles and are proud to present a week filled with inspiring, entertaining and educational events.”
Added Eric Garcetti, Los Angeles City Council president, “We are pleased that ASCAP has once again chosen Los Angeles as the backdrop for its events because our city has been and continues to be a beacon of opportunity for aspiring music creators and a thriving cultural center for many of the most legendary names in music.”
The expo takes place on April 10-12 in Los Angeles at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel. The special series of interviews is set for April 10. The pop music awards will be held on April 9.
