L.A. Cobra frontman Don Cobra encouraging fans not to ask for free merchandise
South African sleaze rockers L.A. Cobra frontman Don Cobra posted a seemingly heartfelt candid message to fans where he requested that people stop asking for free merchandise given that the profits generated from the merchandise sales go towards covering the band’s expenses.
The following message was posted on Cobra‘s Facebook page back on July 16th:
“Dear friends, family and fans❤🤘🏻I love you all❤ I never complain online but i feel i have to say this, not only for myself but for all other bands/artists out there. Please DON’T ask a band for free merch. It fkn breaks my heart to say “NO” to you and i bet other bands/artists feel the same😔 Believe me, if every band could afford to give free merch away we would. We do want you to wear our gear and listen to our music and due to piracy the music industry is already fucked up and bands only get a little income by selling merchandise. You guys have no idea how much we appreciate your support, but we have expenses to cover, not to even mention consumables and yes every band needs exposure, but at what cost?? Bands/Artists are selling merch to cover costs and in our case we’re preparing for a tour to Europe, Scandinavia and UK which we have to fund in advance before we get a dime back. Please think twice before you ask for free stuff as a band is a business. To those of you guys and gals who loyally support your friends in bands year in and year out by paying for merch(service) YOU fkn ROCK❤🤘🏻you have no idea how much it means to them/us.
I LOVE YOU ALL❤❤
Thank you for keeping Rock n Roll alive❤🤘🏻
