The Sound of Music Festival describes itself as follows via its website:

“The Sound of Music has exploded in size since its modest beginnings in 1980 as a marching band parade. Operating as a not-for-profit corporation, the organization stages Canada’s Largest Free Music Festival every year in June. Due to the passion, love and commitment of hundreds of volunteers, a small staff, and a roster of generous sponsors and suppliers, music takes over Downtown Burlington and the waterfront.

As the region’s largest music event, we support an eclectic combination of new and emerging artists, local and international talent, past favourites and some of today’s most popular performers.

Music can be heard throughout our downtown for nine days straight.

From our ticketed kick-off concert, Live on the Lake, through our Sound of Music Club Series – spotlighting local & emerging talent,  and of course a lineup of FREE concerts on three stages! Be sure to also take in the Downtown Streetfest, Grande Festival Parade, midway, vendors, food trucks and more, all wrapped around a celebration of the arts over Father’s Day Weekend.

Sound of Music Festival is a part of Burlington.

The Festival brings people together from near and far and creates memories and traditions that last a lifetime. Ask anyone in town and they’re likely to have a Sound of Music story. The Festival remains an annual event and is the region’s biggest event of the year. In 2022, SOM generated nearly $40M in economic activity and welcomed over 400,000 visitors to the City.”
