Former Runaways guitarist to join rock legends at Labor Day weekend bash; festival also adds seminal 80’s hard rock bands L.A. Guns, Jackyl, Bang Tango and Faster Pussycat

The four-day Rock The Bayou festival has announced the addition of Lita Ford, lead guitarist and international pop metal legend, to an already impressive lineup. The upcoming Labor Day weekend bash also announced a beefed-up roster, adding seminal 80’s hard rockers L.A. Guns, Jackyl, Bang Tango and Faster Pussycat.

Ford will take the concert stage for the second time in 15 years – this time in Houston for a Rock The Bayou lineup that is already burgeoning with more than 40 artists, including rock superstars Sammy Hagar, Alice Cooper, Queensryche and Bret Michaels. The former lead guitarist of the Runaways – acknowledged as the first successful all-girl rock band – garnered hits in several countries during her noteworthy career. At the age of 17, Ford joined the Runaways, fronting a teenage hard rock band with Joan Jett that would gain a worldwide following opening for the Ramones, Van Halen, Cheap Trick and Tom Petty.

Early-bird $99 tickets to Rock The Bayou will be available through July 31, covering all four days of the festival. One of the most affordable music events in the country, Rock The Bayou also offers active and retired U.S. military (with ID) half-price admission. Tickets are available by charge by phone at (713) 629-4747, or RockTheBayou.com or OnlineTickets.com, the festival’s exclusive ticket seller.

One dollar from every Rock the Bayou ticket purchased will go to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Lone Star Chapter.

“Our goal is to make Rock The Bayou the most memorable music festival of the year by featuring some of rock’s greatest live performers,” says Ali Fazeli , president of The Fazeli Group, which is promoting and producing the event.

Glam metal heroes L.A. Guns gained fame on the Los Angeles’ Sunset Strip during the early 1980s influencing a host of bands and eventually forming the “Guns” half of Guns N’ Roses, a band featuring Axl Rose. L.A. Guns’ founder Tracii Guns played lead for Guns N’ Roses before leaving and being replaced by Slash.

Jackyl developed a distinctive blend of metal and Southern rock. The band is infamous for lead singer Jesse Dupree’s on-stage chainsaw solos during “The Lumberjack,” videos of which have collected thousands of views on YouTube. Jackyl also gained notoriety protesting K-Mart’s refusal to sell one of its albums by parking a flatbed trailer in front of a Marietta , Georgia store and performing a spirited version of “I Stand Alone” before local police shut down the unauthorized show.

Faster Pussycat also hails Los Angeles. Their 1989 album “Wake Me When It’s Over” went gold, selling more than 500,000 copies and fostering a large cult following.

Bang Tango fuses funk, hard rock and glam metal, reaping MTV success with its single “Someone Like You,” from their album Psycho Cafe.

The Rock The Bayou festival will also feature rock legends Sammy Hagar, Alice Cooper, Bret Michaels and his Rock of Love Tour, Queensryche, Twisted Sister, Skid Row, Great White, Ratt, Dokken, Warrant (with its original lineup), Yngwie Malmsteen, Slaughter, Y&T, Dangerous Toys, Little Caesar, Jetboy, Bullet Boys with Steven Adler, Lynch Mob, Britny Fox, Pretty Boy Floyd, Enuff Z’Nuff, Black ‘n Blue, Gilby Clarke, Firehouse and Broken Teeth. All told, more than 40 bands will play two stages over four days.

“Rock The Bayou is going to be an amazing show, a chance to see rock legends and an unbelievable way to end the summer,” Fazeli explains.
