Loverboy Classic Spoofed By Ron Burgundy On Late Night TV

November 21, 2013

In character as ‘Anchorman’ Ron Burgundy, Will Ferrell appeared on the Conan O’Brien show Wednesday night to show support for embattled Toronto mayor Rob Ford.

“My dear, dear, dear friend Mayor Rob Ford of Toronto is running for re-election and I hold him in the highest regard — he is the best. He’s asked me to sing the campaign theme song for his re-election,” said Burgundy, who was on the show to promote his new book ‘Let Me Off At The Top!’ and upcoming movie ‘Anchorman 2’.

“He’s controversial because he’s so damn honest,” Burgundy proclaimed before joining the house band for a rousing performance of Loverboy’s “Working For The Weekend”, complete with jazz flute solo.

Rob Ford, who has been making headlines for his crack smoking scandal, took to Twitter the next day to show his approval. “Good morning Toronto. I had to laugh at my friend Ron Burgundy and his take on my 2014 re-election campaign song.”

Loverboy themselves even enjoyed the skit by saying, “Maybe it’s about time we incorporate the flute solo into our shows? Will Ferrell you’ve got a job with us if this acting thing doesn’t work out.”
