Michael Anthony open to reuniting with Van Halen
Current The Circle and Chickenfoot and former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony was interviewed by Sayaka Shiomi at NAMM last month (see video interview below) and asked about his various bands.
With respect to Chickenfoot, Anthony stated (as transcribed by Sleaze Roxx): “Chickenfoot, uuuh, of course we’re waiting — we have, we actually have two new songs that we finished up and they’re being package for actually. It’s coming out all over Europe very soon. We packaged with some live stuff. Other than that, we are just waiting our drummer Chad Smith. He’s touring with the Chili Peppers. They tour for like ten years at a time I think so you know… But we didn’t, we didn’t want to have another drummer doing — on the last Chickenfoot tour, Kenny Aronoff played drums for us and this time, we wanted to wait for Chad to be free. So as soon as Chad is free, we’re all going to be back in the studio and back on the road with Chickenfoot. I am looking forward to that!” Anthony went on to state: “Don’t worry, Chickenfoot will be back.”
Anthony was also advised that a lot of his audience wished that he would go back to Van Halen to which he replied: “You know, I am always the guy that says ‘Never say never’ but uh, you know, right now, I am just having fun doing what I am doing and if it happens, it happens. I’m obviously open to it if something happens with it but next year I guess is the 40th, the 40th year anniversary of the first album so who knows?
