Michael Sweet reiterates Stryper probably more “metal” than most other “metal” bands out there

Stryper frontman Michael Sweet continues to use social media to communicate his thoughts on various topics including dedicating his life to music and God at an early age. Earlier this month, Stryper released their 13th studio album titled Even The Devil Believes via Frontiers Music Srl.

The following message was posted on Sweet‘s Facebook page yesterday (with slight edit):

“Looking back on these times I recall wanting to pursue my dreams which always involved music. I had no idea that 8 years later (at the age of 20) I would decide to not only dedicate my life to music but more importantly, dedicate my life to God.

From this age to 20 believe it or not, I lived a lifetime of “typical” rock and roll cliches. All the stupid, wasteful things that are associated with rock and roll (sex, drugs, booze, etc) yet all have absolutely nothing to do with being a professional, hard working musician. They do however have everything to do with being irresponsible and immature.

Thank God I chose a different path. Although I’ve had my share of shortcomings over the years, I’m so thankful that I decided to take a stand for holiness and break the chains that the “rock & roll” lifestyle can lock you into. So many of my friends are either gone or not the same due to over abuse of all of the above. It’s a deadly trap that can consume anyone.

I’ve been called a wimp, a pussy, a sellout, a wanna be, a joke and any other derogatory comment you can think of. You name it, we’ve heard it. Has it slowed us down? Hell no. It’s only fueled the raging fire. We’re on a mission and until The Good Lord calls us home we’ll continue to follow the calling that God has upon our lives.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again – If metal is about rebellion then we’re probably more metal than most other “metal” bands out there. We’ve rebelled against the norm and we haven’t played by any rules when many other bands have basically followed the rules. We broke the mold and still continue to do so. We stand for holiness in a godless society and we have absolutely no regrets.

It amazes me to see the affect that this band and its message & music have had on the world for 36 years! It’s humbling to say the least and what an honor it has been to take a stand for Christ through the gifts and abilities that He has given to us🙏

God bless you all and thank you for standing with us👊👍🙏
