Michael Sweet’s list of 22 favorite bass players does not include Stryper bassist Tim Gaines

Stryper frontman Michael Sweet posted a Facebook message yesterday where he provided his picks for the best rock bassists throughout history. Despite naming 22 bassists in his list, Sweet did not mention his long-time Stryper bandmate Tim Gaines.

The following is Sweet‘s Facebook message from yesterday:

James Lomenzo
Michael Anthony
John O’Boyle
John Paul Jones
Paul McCartney
Geezer Butler

Jack Bruce
Chris Squire
Steve Harris
John Deacon
Roger Glover
Phil Lynott
Sting
John Wetton
Rudy Sarzo
Randy Jackson
Doug “Dug” Pinnick
Cliff Burton
Billy Sheehan

In an interview with Sleaze Roxx back in 2011 where Sleaze Roxx complimented Gaines‘ playing on Stryper‘s cover of Iron Maiden‘s “The Trooper”, Sweet stated: “Right. You don’t realize how great those bands are until you’re playing the songs. Playing them in a live setting you can get away with some mistakes, but in the studio you can’t make any mistakes. That was one of those songs that really beat us up. It goes to show you just how incredibly talented Iron Maiden is, no question about it.”
