VELVET REVOLVER REPLACING IRON MAIDEN ON OZZFEST?:

March 28, 2005

Velvet Revolver was listed as part of the lineup of bands scheduled for the August 27 date of Ozzfest, in Woodlands, Texas, according to a posting on the festival’s official site. Although the band’s name has since been taken off the posting, there is speculation that the group has been approached to co-headline the last seven dates of the tour with Black Sabbath. The trek’s primary co-headliners, Iron Maiden, will not appear on those shows due to a previous touring commitment overseas. No replacement act has been announced yet by Ozzfest organizers.

The same posting had also listed Mudvayne on the bill, although the Illinois-based act’s name has since been removed as well.

Ozzfest kicks off on July 15 in Mansfield, Massachusetts. Other acts confirmed for the tour include Rob Zombie, Killswitch Engage, Black Label Society, Shadows Fall and more.

The “Bands” page at Ozzfest.com indicates that a main stage “mystery act” will be revealed shortly. It’s been rumored to be the “classic” version of Anthrax, which officially announced its reunion last week.

Meanwhile, Velvet Revolver kicked off its own headlining North American tour last week. The group plays in Calgary, Alberta, Canada Monday (March 28).
