VH1 CLASSIC METAL MANIA: STRIPPED VOLUME 2: ‘THE ANTHEMS’:
August 9, 2005
NEW YORK, Aug. 9 — Set for release on October 18, 2005, VH1 CLASSIC METAL MANIA: STRIPPED VOLUME 2: “THE ANTHEMS” serves as a follow up to the extremely successful ballad-driven first edition by presenting acoustic versions of heavy metal’s greatest anthems. Combining brand new acoustic recordings with hard-to-find versions gathered from imports, live recordings, and rare performances, the second STRIPPED CD offers an acoustic spin on some of the greatest anthems ever by hard rock’s multi-platinum metal gods.
STRIPPED: VOLUME 2 offers fans ten newly recorded tracks, including Kip Winger’s “MADELAINE,” Jani Lane of Warrant singing “CHERRY PIE,” Great White’s “ROCK ME,” Stephen Pearcy (formerly of RATT) singing “ROUND AND ROUND,” Night Ranger performing “DON’T TELL ME YOU LOVE ME,” Tom Keifer and Fred Coury of Cinderella doing “SHAKE ME,” Nelson’s hit “LOVE AND AFFECTION,” Slaughter’s “UP ALL NIGHT,” and more to be announced.
STRIPPED: VOLUME 2 adds to this already special collection with intimate, one-of-a-kind versions of such classic cuts as the Scorpions’ “ROCK YOU LIKE A HURRICANE” and Whitesnake’s “HERE I GO AGAIN,” both imports. From MTV Unplugged, the disc brings Poison’s “TALK DIRTY TO ME.” Rare live tracks include Tesla’s “HEAVEN’S TRAIL (NO WAY OUT)” and Dokken’s “INTO THE FIRE.”
In addition to the CD release, a live DVD of the historic Volume 1 record release party, recorded in February on the Sunset Strip, will also be made available on October 18. Entitled VH1 CLASSIC METAL MANIA: STRIPPED ON THE STRIP: LIVE AT THE KEY CLUB, the concert features live performances from Alias, LA Guns, Kip Winger, Great White, Slaughter, Jani Lane of Warrant, and more. To add to this impressive package, the DVD will offer countless bonus features, including interviews, behind-the-scenes footage, artist galleries, and exclusive VH1 Classic footage and in-studio performances.
Volume one of METAL MANIA: STRIPPED debuted on the Billboard Top 200 and has sold over 100,000 units to date. With this success, and with the new CD and DVD on the way, it only seemed natural for these rockers to take it on the road. Scheduled to kick off in Minneapolis on October 14th, the one-month, 25-date acoustic tour, VH1 CLASSIC METAL MANIA: STRIPPED ACROSS AMERICA will rock its way across the country through November 13th in support of the new CD and DVD. Jamie Talbot, compilation producer, A&R/Immortal Entertainment/Sidewinder Music, comments, “With the overwhelming success of the original STRIPPED, it was only natural to take the project to the next level, bringing together some of the greatest rock anthems of all time on an all new disc. Add to that the overwhelming success of our Key Club release party performances captured on the new DVD, and the fans’ desire to see these acts on tour was clear. We’re excited to bring the new CD, DVD and live performances to loyal metal fans across America.”
Kip Winger comments, “Even though these are acoustic, this album still rocks and shows that these songs truly stand the test of time. I was psyched to record the acoustic version of “MADELAINE,” because its one of my favorite Winger songs. Looking forward to the VH1 CLASSIC METAL MANIA: STRIPPED ACROSS AMERICA TOUR.”
Jani Lane (of Warrant) said, “Being included on Stripped Volumes 1 & 2 has been an awesome experience. It was great to revisit old friends and play some of the old hits. The opportunity to create acoustic versions of some of the best songs of my career was a definite highlight. I am really looking forward to bringing this special performance, along with the other Stripped Artists, to friends and fans across the country.”
Great White’s Jack Russell adds, “The list of acoustic tracks on the STRIPPED discs is outstanding. Going on tour to perform the stripped down versions, with this group of musicians who love what they do, is going to be incredible.”
Eric Sherman, Senior Vice President, General Manager of VH1 Classic said, “VH1 Classic shares a very deep connection with metal fans. In fact, “Metal Mania” is one of the network’s most popular programs. We were so elated by the success of the first Metal Mania Stripped CD, we knew we had to do it again with our partners at Sidewinder Music. We’re thrilled that the concept is expanding to DVD and concert halls across the country.”
VH1 Classic will support the new releases through extensive on-air, online, retail, and radio promotions, including contests and guitar giveaways. The CD and DVD will also be available for purchase at shop.vh1classic.com.
