SHARON OSBOURNE LASHES OUT AT IRON MAIDEN SINGER:
August 22, 2005
Sharon Osbourne has taken to Ozzfest’s official Web site to sound off on Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson, whom she claims has spent the tour disrespecting her husband, Ozzy. Her statement follows a series of bizarre incidents during Iron Maiden’s set last night (Aug. 21) in San Bernardino, Calif., the band’s final show at Ozzfest.
Sharon claims that “from day one, Bruce Dickinson started berating Ozzy and belittling the Ozzfest audience. Out of 200-plus bands over the last 10 years, he has been the only person who hasn’t had the Ozzfest spirit. He thought he was at a battle of the bands, always making other comments about other artists.”
She further states that Maiden bassist Steve Harris “personally came to Ozzy in San Bernardino and apologized for Bruce’s behavior this summer, stating that he and the rest of the band were ’embarrassed’ by their own singer.”
According to fan reports, last night’s Maiden set was marred by sound cutting in and out as well as an onslaught of debris thrown onto the stage. A group spokesperson declined to comment on the incident or Osbourne’s statement.
And while Maiden has not directly responded to the accusations, the group did apologize to fans for its Sunday performance. “It was obvious to all there that we had a ‘series of unfortunate events’ throughout,” reads a statement on its official Web site. “These made it difficult for us to keep our momentum but your incredible support certainly helped us get through it.”
Having departed Ozzfest to appear this weekend at the U.K.’s Reading and Leeds festivals, Maiden’s spot will be filled by Velvet Revolver beginning tomorrow in Albuquerque, N.M.
