HELIX’S BRIAN VOLLMER TO RELEASE ‘GIMME AN R!’ BIOGRAPGHY:
November 6, 2005
BOOK ALREADY SELLING WELL
As you all know, last week I advertised on the website that my autobiography “Gimme an R!” would be ready by around the first of December from the printers and that I was now taking advance orders. Very shortly after that I sold my first copy-to Tom Wagner from Germany. My second copy went to Rob Bursey of Newfoundland. Since then the book has been selling steadily and Lynda and I are pleasantly happy from the response. Many of our fans/friends are buying them as Christmas presents.
One of the things that I’m most happy about concerning the book is that I’ve been able to put in over 200 photos from all periods of the band’s history-some never seen before. I couldn’t have done this without help from many former members, most notably Bruce Arnold, Don Simmons, Keith Zurbrigg, Ken Heague, and Dale Wright. Kudos also go to Connie Garrison, Paul’s former wife who has since re-married.
TIMMONS & SUDBURY
The response to our upcoming Timmons & Sudbury shows this week has been fantastic. In Timmons we’ve been getting a push from Radio Two Ninety Two and Dave McLaughlin, whilst in Sudbury we’ll be going on-air to host the drive time show on 292 with Stephanie Hunter. Hope all of you in the area come out to see our first couple of shows in Northern Ontario in many years. Make sure to tell all your friends and bring them out too.
TENTATIVE WESTERN CANADIAN TOUR SLATED FOR JANUARY/FEBRUARY
This week I talked to Bernie Aubin about bringing the band back out west in late January/early February. This is the perfect opportunity for us to raise the profile of the band. The release of “Gimme an R!” gives us a great “in” at radio stations and also helps to get us ink with the local newspapers. I’ve already started to contact magazines, newspapers, etc. about interviews concerning the book and the feedback so far has been very positive.
We will be re-instating the “Trivia Question” with an accompanying prize, only this time the contest will run for the whole month. Correct answers to the trivia question which are submitted in the proper time period will be put into a hat and at the end of the month the winner will be picked at random by my lovely wife Lynda. Only one answer per person.
ONE LAST THING
In the very near future I will be penning a column for Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles. The column will be named “The Vocal Chord” and will talk about The Bel Canto Technique of singing, among other things…
