SUNSET STRIP SCENE HITS THE BOARDS:
January 13, 2006
NEW YORK (Billboard) – Hair bands headed for Broadway? Not just yet, but “Rock of Ages,” a new musical set around the glory days of the mid- to late-’80s Sunset Strip club scene, is opening January 28 for a four-week run at Hollywood’s Vanguard Theater, with an eye toward a move to Las Vegas.
The musical features re-created versions of such songs as Pat Benatar’s “Hit Me With Your Best Shot,” Poison’s “Nothin’ but a Good Time,” Whitesnake’s “Here I Go Again” and, of course, Night Ranger’s “Sister Christian.”
The cast includes the Dan Band’s Dan Finnerty and Tenacious D’s Kyle Gass.
Longtime artist manager Janet Billig Rich, who has managed such acts as Nirvana, Hole and the Breeders, is putting her rock ‘n’ roll past to work as one of the show’s executive producers.
