ZZ TOP AXEMAN JAMS WITH QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE:

NEW YORK (Billboard) – While working on their next studio album, Queens Of The Stone Age were joined this week in a Los Angeles studio by ZZ Top guitarist Billy F. Gibbons.
According to QOTSA’s official Web site (http://www.qotsa.com), Gibbons “rolled into the studio … at the stroke of midnight and left at 5 in the A.M.”
“They’re definitely some dedication fashioners of tone and taste and, clearly, no strangers to those bluesy wee hours,” Gibbons told Billboard.com. “That’s when it’s the most rockin’ and those guys seem to be always ready to rock.”
It is unknown if Gibbons’ contributions will make the cut for the as-yet-untitled album, QOTSA’s first since the spring departure of bassist/vocalist Nick Oliveri. Group leader Josh Homme is recording the set with drummer Joey Castillo, multi-instrumentalist Troy Van Leeuwen and Desert Sessions collaborator Alain Johannes.
It will be the follow-up to 2002’s breakthrough Interscope Records release “Songs for the Deaf,” which has sold 901,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Gibbons dropped in on QOTSA during a brief break from ZZ Top’s summer North American tour, which resumes Friday night in Minot, N.D. The group recently issued the best-of “Rancho Texicano” via Rhino.
