Nikki Sixx Celebrates Sobriety Birthday
July 2, 2013
Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx is celebrating his ‘sobriety birthday’ today and shared his good news on Facebook.
“Fuck yeah. Today is my sobriety birthday,” stated Sixx. “By letting go of self and ego, working a program that connects you to a higher power and giving back to those still struggling are just some of the important things you learn through sobriety. You get to repair the damage done from drink, drugs and horrific behaviors that broke peoples hearts who loved you. For me taking away the substance just gave me an honest view of who I had become and then the healing started. I do believe without any program to help many are just dry drunks and there is always a danger of them going out again. I’ve been there. It’s not pretty. This is no joking matter to me so I take it seriously. I also love that I get to live in the moment by not carrying around all that baggage (in my head) from years ago.”
Sixx’ dependence on drugs and alcohol were chronicled in the best selling books ‘The Heroin Diaries: A Year In The Life Of A Shattered Rock Star’ and Motley Crue’s ‘The Dirt’. On December 23, 1987, Sixx was declared dead for two minutes after a heroin overdose, only to be revived by paramedics with two adrenaline shots to the heart.
“Today I get to be a better father, friend, artist and future husband (the list goes on too),” continues Sixx. “You get out of this what you put into it… Its not easy but it is the greatest gift you will ever receive IF you’re an addict… Thanks for letting me share. If you’re not an addict, have a drink on me today…”
Motley Crue will be returning to Las Vegas for another extended residency later this year. The rockers best known for going to the extreme will once again take over the stage at The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino for an exclusive twelve show engagement September 18th through October 6th.
