NIKKI SIXX IS “MADLY IN LOVE” WITH KAT VON D:
October 8, 2008
Motley Crue and Sixx: A.M. bassist Nikki Sixx has posted the following blog at www.myspace.com/nikkisixx:
Hey all, Mexico has been wonderful to us. The fans are so kind and welcoming. We’ve had some great shows down here, but now it’s time to say good-bye. Today we’re off to Argentina for our first visit ever. I can’t believe we’re finally going to South America to play. The band is ecstatic to say the least.
I’m in my room, slowly packing up my mess. It doesn’t take me long to destroy a room, 3 days worth of room service trays overflowing with half pots of coffee and barley eatin’ food. Computer cables, hard drives and camera lenses are scattered to all four corners. Hotels aren’t my favourite cause they slow me down. I miss my creative space back home, but I do my best to drag as much as possible around the world with me. This time I chose to not bring as much stuff. Sometimes the squeeze ain’t worth the juice.
It’s getting harder and harder for me to take pictures unless it really moves me. My photography studio back in Los Angeles is under construction and should be 90% done by the time I return. Not unlike the (I Will Not Grow) session I did last year, sets and content need to be created, built and lit. Photographers like Paul Brown, Dian Michener and of course Joel Peter Witkin continue to make me re-evaluate my destination and technique. I’ve been watching loads of old movies and the simplicity of the lighting inspires me as much as the visions of mixing all this madness in my brain into a hopefully unsettling and satisfying cocktail.
Words, so many damn words, flowing outta my head, it’s almost like torture… I’ve written 8 songs, poems, love stories or rancid notes from hell all in the last 2 days… (I never really understand when I’m writing what the hell it is I’m doing). I guess we could say Mexico has inspired me.
It’s never easy being away from the ones you love, and nothing inspires an artist like having to be apart from them…. and it never gets easier for me… or them.
Katherine (Kat Von D) is almost wrapped up with season 3 of L.A. Ink and she’s running on empty. Her makeup line is rocking, her book is all done, the shop is overflowing with clients and she’s in full tilt press mode. Where that girl gets the energy I’ll never know, but it inspires me. She as an artist inspires me. We talk for hours into the night about art, photographers, history and honesty… honestly, my heart is full… I’m madly in love…
So Argentina, Singapore and the Japan stand between me and home, but for now, I am grateful to be here, playing rock ‘n’ roll for the fans……..
God blesses you all… or at least most of you…”
