Phil Lewis reveals that he was considering leaving L.A. Guns in December but decided to stay on

L.A. Guns frontman Phil Lewis was recently interviewed by Shannon Wilks for Rockin’ Interviews. L.A. Guns consisting of Lewis on lead vocals, Tracii Guns and Ace Von Johnson on guitar, Johnny Martin on bass, and Adam Hamilton (studio) and Shawn Duncan (live) on drums, will be releasing a new studio album titled Black Diamonds via Frontiers Music Srl on April 14, 2023.

Lewis revealed that the current version of L.A. Guns actually almost recently broke up as he indicated (as provided by Rockin’ Interviews):

“We’ve recently gone through a whole bunch of infrastructure changes, we’ve got new management. I was real fond of our old manager, he did a bit more than manage, he was very much an invisible member of the band. He was a big part of the reason that I had agreed to do the reunion. I had always said to Scotty (their former manager), ‘Don’t leave because if you leave, I’m leaving.’ Tracii and Scotty had been working together a lot longer than the reunion. Their relationship was kinda fried and it came to a head around December and Scotty quit. I wasn’t sure that I wanted to do it without Scotty. I live in Vegas and we had shows in Vegas. I said to Tracii, ‘I don’t know if I can be in this band without Scotty but we’ve got two shows coming up and if you get here we’ll do them and we’ll talk about it’. So they came and we did the shows and they sounded good and we had a great record in the can ready to go so I had to reconsider and take a little break. It’s okay. We’ve got a new manager, new record, everything’s fine, it was just a blip.”

“He (Scotty) was kind of a babysitter and we lost our babysitter. I don’t need a babysitter but other people do.”
