Today (April 21, 2023) is the release day for Trading Aces‘ debut album Rock ‘N’ Roll Homicide via Ripple Music and Sleaze Roxx is honoured to premiere the video for the group’s new single “Hello Hangover.” Trading Aces consist of lead vocalist / guitarist Frank Meyer (Los Angeles, United States), guitarist Dennis Post (Copenhagen, Denmark), bassist Bjarne Paamand Olsen (Copenhagen, Denmark) and drummer Iván Tambac (Torrevieja, Spain).
Purple Sage PR‘s press release indicates: “Obsessed with fast cars, hard drinkin’, breakin’ laws and breakin’ hearts, Trading Aces is a 4-piece band of rock ‘n’ roll outlaws with a blood-and-beer-soaked debut album that quite simply rules. Comprised of musicians spanning three different countries the Aces met during the pandemic hustlin’ music to survive while the world froze. Featuring members of Warrior Soul, Streetwalkin’ Cheetahs and The City Kids, the band’s sound is a mix of hard rock punk and old school heavy metal laced with plenty of catchy pop hooks. Think Wildhearts meets Social Distortion. Think Cheap Trick meets Judas Priest. Think AC/DC meets Hanoi Rocks. These sounds are spilling over with volume attitude and thrills on Rock ‘n’ Roll Homicide… and it only took the end of the world to get the ball rolling.”

Speaking exclusively to Sleaze Roxx, Meyer was asked what it’s like to juggle things with band members located in the US, Denmark and Spain to which he replied: “It’s pretty easy actually. All the guys in Trading Aces are very tech-savvy, we all have home recording studios, and we are all likeminded in what the band should sound like. So, guitarist Dennis Post or I come up with a song idea, make a demo, send it to the other one to add more ideas, and then we fly it by the other guys before it gets too far in, they chime in and we make any tweaks, record our parts individually, and then BOOM we got a new song! For photos and music videos, I flew from the US to Copenhagen, and our drummer Ivan Tambac flew in from Spain to meet us, but that was like a fun, rock ‘n’ roll vacation with all my pals, so it was hardly a hassle. It was also the first international traveling I had done since Covid lockdown, so I was thrilled to go!”
In terms of how long it took to write the songs for Rock ‘N’ Roll Homicide and record the album, Meyer indicated: “We wrote and recorded our album Rock ‘N’ Roll Homicide over the course of a year. It started with me meeting Dennis through Kory Clarke of Warrior Soul. I sang some backing vocals and played keyboards on their album Cocaine and Other God Stuff and met Dennis through that. I started working with his UK band The City Kids as well, singing backing vocals all over their albums Rats and Filth, and eventually Dennis and I started writing together. When Eddie Van Halen passed away, we decided to do a cover of “In A Simple Rhyme” by Van Halen and donate the money to Mr. Hollands Opus, Eddie’s favorite charity. He brought in Ivan and our bassist Bjarne Olsen and it sounded so great, we pulled those guys into our band project and that line-up became Trading Aces. Over the next year, we wrote and recorded the album. It all came together quite magically.”

With respect to the origins of the band name Trading Aces, Meyer revealed: “Actually, the guitarist in my blues-rock band Highway 61, Andy Medway, came up with the name. We were banging our heads against the wall, internationally, trying to come up with good name. Everything you can think of is taken! Eventually I asked Andy if he had any ideas and he gave us that one. It’s great because the band is very cinematic — in the songs in that they all could be right out of an action, exploitation or horror movie – and the name reminds me of two movies I love, Trading Places and Underground Aces.”
In regard to the album title Rock ‘N’ Roll Homicide, Meyer stated: “That was a song co-written with Dino Everett of the Streetwalkin’ Cheetahs. He had that rad Slayer-sounding riff and it was so evil it kinda sent me down a lyrical path…of murder and destruction! I wrote the lyrics about a band literally robbing their audience at gunpoint in the middle of a concert. People always talks about a band ripping them off, I thought “What if they really did?””
Finally, in terms of Trading Aces‘ remaining plans for 2023, Meyer revealed: “Trading Aces‘ album has just been released via Ripple Music, the first single “Ain’t It A Bitch” is out now and doing excellent, and the second single “Hello Hangover” is making its debut right here, right now! We tour Spain in May, then I have summer dates with the Streetwalkin’ Cheetahs and fall dates with Highway 61. Meanwhile. Trading Aces is plotting the next tour and already has the second album all demo’d up. So Hoping to get that second Aces album done by the end of the year and out ASAP next year.”
