The news of Bain‘s death was apparently first reported by a news publication entitled Blastzone Online.

Bain was born on December 17, 1947 and would have been 68 when he died on or about January 24, 2016 assuming the reports of his death are accurate.

Bain first rose to prominence when he played in Rainbow from 1975 to 1977. He appeared on the following Rainbow albums: Rising (1976), On Stage (1977), Live In Germany 1976 (1990) and Deutschland Tournee 1976 (2006). Bain then formed a group called Wild Horses along with ex-Thin Lizzy guitarist Brian Robertson, which released two albums: Wild Horses (1980) and Stand Your Ground (1981). Bain then joined the legendary singer Ronnie James Dio in Dio for two long stints consisting of 1982 to 1989 and 1999 to 2004. During that time, Dio released a number of albums including Holy Diver (1983), The Last In Line (1984), Sacred Heart (1985), Dream Evil (1987), Magica (2000), Killing The Dragon (2002) and Evil Or Divine – Live In New York City (2003).

More recently, Bain had reunited with ex-Dio members Vivian Campbell (guitar) and Vinny Appice (drums) to form a new band entitled Last In Line along with singer Andrew Freeman. The group was scheduled to play the first ever Def Leppard cruise from January 21 to 25, 2016.
