Rachel Bolan recalls John Corabi blowing off auditioning for Skid Row

Skid Row bassist Rachel Bolan was recently interviewed by Chuck Shute for the Chuck Shute Podcast.

Shute noted that Skid Row with lead vocalist Matt Fallon got to open for Bon Jovi back in the day and eventually started looking for a new singer. Shute also noted that John Corabi, who would go on to join The Scream and Mötley Crüe, was given the opportunity to audition for Skid Row.

Bolan indicated (as transcribed by the Chuck Shute Podcast with slight edits): “Yeah, he blew it off. And to this day, he’ll see me. He’s like, ‘Yeah, I’m really glad I blew off that audition.'”

Shute wondered: “Like why did he blow it? Like, what was his story or reason? Because it’s too far away? He’s in Philadelphia, right?”

Bolan continued: “Yeah. But I mean, we weren’t far from Philly. We were about an hour and a half. You know what I mean? Not even, maybe an hour and 10. But he… I don’t know… I think he told us that his water heater broke. I think that was him. Somebody that we auditioned said ‘I can’t come in. My water heater broke and I had my basement’s full of water. And then [we] never heard back. But yeah, John, I bust his balls.”

Bolan went on  to state: “Someone recommended him. I think [Dave] Snake [Sabo] jammed with him once or maybe [Rob] Affuso did? I forget… One of the guys knew him.”
