Review:
Benedictum are back with Dominion, the band’s third effort and first on their new label Frontiers Records. Benedictum are fronted by the gorgeous and talented Veronica Freeman who delivers her most commanding performance to date. You can now put her in the same league as the late great Ronnie James Dio, Udo Dirkschnieder, Doro Pesch and the like — she’s that good. The new album Dominion was produced by Ryan Greene, who has worked with the likes of Megadeth and Alice Cooper, and like the band’s previous efforts features guest appearances — this time Rudy Sarzo (Quiet Riot), Craig Goldy (Dio) and Jeff Pilson (Dokken).

If you’re looking for a pure metal effort in the tradition of Accept, Heaven & Hell and Black Sabbath look no further than Benedictum. On Dominion the band display a harder edged sound with progressive tendencies — a formula that suits them wonderfully. Guitarist Pete Wells has taken his playing to another level on Dominion… unleashing his most fierce licks, riffs and solos to date.

Dominion stands alone as one of the best efforts of 2011. The tracks “At The Gates”, “Grind It”, “Beautiful Pain”, and “Bang” are outstanding in their own right. There are two bonus cuts included — “Sanctuary”, a killer acoustic power ballad that has hit written all over it, and a cover of Rush‘s “Overture/Temple of Syrinx”, which is absolutely spectacular and keeps the customary pattern of Benedictum covers past. Dominion is the first blockbuster power metal album of 2011!
