When I started this website some four years ago, it was to showcase bands like the Crank County Daredevils. There were enough sites dedicated to the pretty boy glam bands, but very few that catered to the uglier side of rock. The side of metal that was mean, unrelenting and dirty – the side of metal that this North Carolina foursome treads.

I’ve always pictured bands like this to be long-haired antisocials, covered in tattoos and with an unquenchable appetite for cheap booze and even cheaper women – and musically they just don’t give a fuck. You see, music like this is never going to top the charts or take over the mainstream. It is just too raw for your typical listener and would be the equivalent of Debbie Does Dallas topping the box office. But with sleaze metal none of that is important, it is about making music you love for the cult following that will embrace it – and sleaze fans will wet their pants with Livin’ In The Red.

The Crank County Daredevils take the blueprint of bands such as Spread Eagle to new extreme heights. The vocals of Scotty P are likely as close to the guttural sounds of death metal as one can get without veering into ridiculous territory. You have to wonder if he popped out of the womb with an unfiltered cigarette dangling from his lips. The rest of the band plays fast, loud and mean…ALWAYS! There are no ballads and no mid-tempo moments, this is full throttle from start to finish.

Once you hear one CCD song you’ve heard them all, but when the music is this good who needs variety? AC/DC proved that point many years ago. Livin’ In The Red is a must have, exemplifying sleaze rock – but it may be too abrasive for the average listener. That’s the way I like it! –
