Review:
Former and future members of Alice Cooper, Ratt, L.A. Guns, Slash’s Snakepit and many more, brought you an ‘in your face’ rocking good time back in 1997. Dad’s Porno Mag was formed in 1994 and released one self-titled full-length CD before the band members drifted off into more profitable ventures, leaving behind this sole release.
Lead singer and guitarist Ryan Roxie has a strong yet sweet voice that isn’t usually heard in his contributions to the rock n roll world while drummer Mike Fasano provides pulsating beats that stand out all throughout the album. Dad’s Porno Mag is an album that is hard to find, but once found, it’s one to keep.
“Hello”, with its Cheap Trick influence, quickly greets the listener with awesome guitars and drums. And there is more where that came from, such as “Smell My Finger”, a great rock and roll song that everyone should tell their friends about as it gives off a punk vibe that sets the humor of it all. “Rule Me”, one of the best songs on the album, is very catchy and memorable. Its got it all, an upbeat riff, loud guitars, controlling lyrics and an interesting change towards the end. “Pigeons Are Rude” is a unique song, different than the others, and a slower song with a killer guitar solo and bass action.
Since this album’s release the band members have gone onto bigger things, but they did leave behind an interesting CD filled with Enuff Z’Nuff inspired pop-rock.
