Smoking Snakes: ‘Restless & Wild’ EP
SMOKING SNAKES
RESTLESS & WILD EP
Released on February 27, 2023 (Smoking Snakes)
Review:
Being a occasional reviewer for this site is not as easy as you might think. The best service a music website can provide is coming up with awesome new bands you have not yet heard of. However, most of the guys on here are well-informed on new releases and often beat me to the mark. Therefore I decided to dig into the vast offerings of Bandcamp in the hope to strike gold. And ladies and gentlemen, I did. Remember this moment, because this is where you first read about Smoking Snakes.
Smoking Snakes was formed in 2022 in Gothenburg, Sweden. And that, as you know by now, is almost a guarantee for quality. In their bio, Smoking Snakes mention being influenced by bands like W.A.S.P., Ratt, Dokken, and KISS with adding a modern (and heavier) twist. And that is quite an accurate description. Their first release is the Restless & Wild EP with just three songs. The bad news, at this moment, it seems to be sold out.
The EP starts off with “Excited” followed by “There Is No Tomorrow” and it closes with “Run For Your Life”. No room or time for ballads, all three songs are good old heavy rock songs with choruses that you will effortlessly sing along in no time. The production is great, the vocals rough and ready for more. If I have to make comparisons I would refer to bands like Knock Out Kaine, Baby Jane (also from Gothenburg, I really miss that band) and Kickin Valentina.
All in all, it’s a very promising start for Smoking Snakes and I expect and hope great things for these guys. I do encourage them to make a full album. I will even let the other guys of Sleaze Roxx review it. But just remember, when in five years time, you find yourself fist pumping to the mighty Smoking Snakes in your local arena, this is where you first heard it.
