ROXX GANG VIDEO COLLECTION NOW AVAILABLE ON DVD – ROXX GANG DIGITAL DOWNLOADS AND MERCHANDISE NOW AVAILABLE
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the release of Roxx Gang’s “Things You’ve Never Done Before” (03/1989), which was the Gangs debut album on Virgin Records. To celebrate the anniversary, we have launched an official Roxx Gang myspace, have made all their CD’s available via digital downloads and opened the vaults to make Roxx Gang merchandise available again including some items for the first time ever.
Roxx Gang exploded on the music scene in 1988 with their classic album “Love ‘Em and Leave ‘Em”. Roxx Gang was a hybrid mixture of rock, blues and punk that virtually defied classification. “Love ‘Em and Leave ‘Em” received stellar reviews on both sides of the Atlantic and earned Roxx Gang a spot on the Top Ten Heavy Metal Albums Of The Year in Tower Records’ Pulse! Though not signed till 1988 Roxx Gang foreshadowed the whole Los Angeles Glam-Rock movement. The band was performing locally in Tampa Bay, FL years before Motley Crue and Poison burst on the national scene.
Regionally, “Love ‘Em and Leave ‘Em” outsold national acts like Whitesnake and Guns-N-Roses, which led to Roxx Gang being the first hard rock band signed by Virgin America. Their Virgin release, “Things You’ve Never Done Before,” went on to sell over 250,000 copies and yielded a Top 50 single in the UK. The band also released two videos “No Easy Way Out” directed by Nigel Dick (Guns-N-Roses) and “Scratch My Back” directed by Ralph Ziman (L.A. Guns) that received extensive airplay on MTV. Later in their career the band was also signed to Epic Records and Perris Records. Their music was featured in Playboy Entertainment DVD’s “Girls of South Beach” and “Ladies of Color” and in the XBox 360 game “Saints Row.”
The band is no longer together but a recent resurgence of interest in the band has lead to new digital distribution and merchandising deals (see below). Lead singer/songwriter Kevin Steele now fronts The Mojo Gurus www.mojogurus.com (True North Records).
For the fist time ever the complete Roxx Gang video collection is now available to the public on DVD! This seven song video collection contains:
1. No Easy Way Out – Roxx Gang’s first video directed by Nigel Dick (Gun’s & Roses) and shot on a soundstage at SIR studios in LA.
2. Scratch My Back – A live concert video shot in St. Petersburg, FL at The Mahaffey Theater. This video was directed by Ralph Ziman (LA Guns). This video was in regular rotation on MTV when it was released and was called “the video of the year” by many of Roxx Gang’s peers in the industry.
3. Time Bomb – The first of four videos that were a collaboration between Christian Moriarty (Producer, Co-Director, Co-Editor) and Roxx Gang singer/songwriter Kevin Steele (Co-Director, Co-Editor). Time Bomb was shot at Roxx Gang’s rehearsal space in St. Petersburg, FL.
4. Hot For Love – The second video from “The Voodoo You Love.” Some consider this Roxx Gang’s best video with it’s amazing voodoo ritual intro and outro and high energy concert performance shot at the State Theatre in St. Petersburg, FL.
5. Tiger Lily – This video from the diverse and cult classic CD “Mojo Gurus” garnered regular rotation on Much Music in Canada. The T. Rex inspired song with its kaleidoscope special effects were a head of its time. Many other artists including Reba McEntire copied this style years later.
6. Star Trip – This uncensored video was made as a promotion clip for industry friends of the band only. Shot in various strip clubs in Tampa, FL this video is rated X with full nudity. A must see for any Roxx Gang fan, this video caused quite a stir in the recording industry when it was first circulated.
7. Red Rose – Never before released live concert video shot at the infamous Club 19 in Clearwater, FL. This video was shot days before Roxx Gang would leave for LA, CA to record their “Things You’ve Never Done Before ” album that was produced by Beau Hill.
This seven-song collection is now available for only $15 (plus shipping and handling). Please send a check for $15 plus $5 for shipping handling (Priority Mail), $8 for shipping and handling on all foreign orders. Please send your payment to: Steele Management 7002 124th Terrace N. Largo, FL 33773.
