Royal Court Of China Reunite For Benefit Show

On Saturday, June 22nd, Nashville’s 1980s rock ‘n’ roll pioneers Royal Court Of China will join forces with Jason and the Scorchers’ guitarist Warner E. Hodges for a one-off benefit performance at East Nashville’s FOOBAR nightclub. The original members of the Royal Court Of China — singer Joe Blanton, drummer Chris Mekow, and bassist Robert Logue, along with Hodges — will perform a set of rockers off the Royal Court Of China’s debut EP and self-titled 1987 major label debut, along with some sizzling covers, in a benefit for Logue’s ‘Cult Fiction Underground – Black Raven Pub’.
The Black Raven Pub has been garnering funds for a new outdoor patio at this East Nashville gathering place for several months. The reunited original Royal Court Of China line-up, along with bands Ascent of Everest and Fancytramp, will be donating funds from the FOOBAR show to aid Logue in the club’s improvements.
For more than a year, the Cult Fiction Underground and Black Raven Pub have provided East Nashville with a unique and original counter-culture destination. The venue has hosted showings of grindhouse and B-movies, masquerade balls, burlesque shows, and movie celebrity events. Now the club hopes to construct a large outdoor patio facility for patrons during the summer Nashville months.
The Royal Court Of China formed in Nashville in 1986 out of the ashes of Blanton and Mekow’s punk-pop band and local favorites The Enemy. Changing their name to the Royal Court of China the band grew a large regional audience through its raucous live performances and songwriting prowess. Following the release of an independent EP ‘Off The Beat’n Path’ in 1986, record labels came knocking. The Royal Court Of China signed with A&M Records in 1987, and released two major labels offerings and contributed to several film soundtracks before disbanding in 1991. Since then, the band has reformed periodically to record or play a local live show.
This one-off Royal Court Of China show is the only scheduled performance of the band in 2013. The show will begin at 9:00 pm with the Royal Court Of China scheduled to go on at 10:00 pm.
