Singer for Steve Riley’s version of L.A. Guns at M3 Rock Festival will be Kurt Frohlich

Drummer Steve Riley‘s version of L.A. Guns announced their new lead vocalist for their appearance at the upcoming M3 Rock Festival by changing the cover photo on their Facebook page listing the band members as Riley, Frohlich, Kelly Nickels (bass) and Scott Griffin (guitar). Riley‘s version of L.A. Guns will be playing on May 4, 2019, which is Day Two of the M3 Rock Festival being held at the Merriweather Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland, USA.

Assuming that the singer for Riley‘s version of L.A. Guns is the Kurt Frohlich that fronted the alternate version of Faster Pussycat back in 2006 -07, Frohlich will likely have the necessary experience to handle any potential backlash from certain L.A. Guns fans unhappy that Riley has a version of the band without singer Phil Lewis or guitarist Tracii Guns. Wikipedia states that back in 2006-07, “three former original Faster Pussycat members – Brent Muscat, Eric Stacy and Brett Bradshaw – alongside The Underground Rebels vocalist Kurt Frohlich and Sin City Sinners guitarist Todd Kerns began performing under the name Faster Pussycat, creating two versions of the band, both claiming to be the original.”

In an interview with Sleaze Roxx back in April 2007, bassist Eric Stacy was asked how Frohlich was handling the old Faster Pussycat tunes originally sung by Taime Downe. Stacy replied: “He sounds great on the old songs. There are very, very few people who could walk into this situation and pull it off so well, and he without a doubt is one of those few. Granted Taime has his style that is unique to the songs, but Kurt has his own style which adds to the songs just as well. And the fans have been overwhelmingly positive to him. There are always going to be those few die hard fans who are going to sit there with a “show me” attitude and I always tell them the same thing, “just give it a fair chance, listen before you make up your mind,” and when they do they all say the same thing, “Kurt rocks man!!!””

Frohlich currently lives in Oviedo, Florida and is from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. He plays a lot of acoustic gigs in the Florida area.

Back in December 2018, Sleaze Roxx interviewed Riley who explained how he ended up agreeing to play the M3 Rock festival under the L.A. Guns name in May 2019. Riley stated: “They came to me Olivier. They called me last year and asked me to come. They told me that Tracii and Phil had cancelled. They had booked it and cancelled. That was going to be two years in a row with 2016 and 2017. When they called me last year, I said “No.” With them booked and then cancelling it, I didn’t like the feel of it. It felt desperate. I just told them, “Thank you very much for the offer but I don’t really have any interest in it.” And another year went by and they called me again this year. And they said, “Would you do it with just about anybody. Come with anybody and play L.A. Guns songs.” And I was flabbergasted. I said, “Really?” They said that the fans really want L.A. Guns music there and people want to hear it. Promoters wanted it too. They really really pushed for me to come. I told them, “This is really coming out of nowhere ’cause I’m doing a bunch of other stuff.” Movie scores, a documentary and some stuff with Vice. This came out of nowhere. Again, I told them, “You’re hitting me out of left field with this.” I told them, “I need a couple of days to think about it.” I called Kelly Nickels about it. I asked him. Me and him decided to do it. Me and him are gonna go down and play. We’re going to go down there and have a great band, have some fun and play some L.A. Guns music we wrote.”
