Singer Priya Panda and guitarist Daniel Dekay provide update on new Diemonds album
Diemonds‘ frontwoman Priya Panda and guitarist Daniel Dekay made an announcement via Facebook back on February 16, 2017 during which time they discussed the upcoming Diemonds album that is in the works and will be following up the group’s critically acclaimed album Never Wanna Die. The latter album finished #3 on the Sleaze Roxx’s Top Ten Albums of 2015 and #8 on the Sleaze Roxx Readers’ Top 20 Albums of 2015.
During the Facebook announcement (go to about 9:58 mark of video below), Panda stated (as transcribed by Sleaze Roxx): “We’re really excited about the record of course. We are working on tunes every single day. I’m working on lyrics and melodies every single day, every time that I have a spare moment, and I think that this album will show our — our growth as musicians and songwriters after touring for so many years and just… We have like… I am really particular about what I want to say on this record and I am taking a lot of time wanting to tell something important, say something important, and just be really real. We had you know, we’re — no — it’s no secret that we’re huge fans of the bands that we love. We wear our influences on our sleeves but we’re just kind of really coming into our own but we have our own voice and our own… Yeah, we have a lot to say on this record. Daniel has a lot to say too.”
Dekay piped in: “Yeah, the record is, from what I can tell so far, it’s gonna be guitar wise heavier look at kind of the riff structure. [Guitarist] C.C. [Diemond] especially has been really really working hard on the best way to voice the chords and the structure of the songs. And we’ve taken a drop tuning approach to the songwriting so far and it’s coming out really fucking heavy. Like really really fucking heavy and I think combining some of the classic elements of the fucking Marshall stacks and Gibson guitars, and these heavy ass drop tunings will make some chunk riff action. And I am pretty stocked for everyone to hear it. It’s fucking sounding heavy so far.”
Panda added: “We’re kinda like blending our influences from the past to a lot of the modern — what’s going on in the modern rock right now. There are a lot of interesting bands out there right now who are doing some really cool things and you know, we wanna, we wanna be right alongside with them on festivals and on bigger stages so that’s just something that we see in our future and we hope you guys are all along for the ride too.”
