Snew lead singer Curtis Don Vito is involved with a new documentary about the Los Angeles metal scene during the mid to late’ 70s entitled ‘Inside Metal: The Pioneers Of Los Angeles Hard Rock And Metal’. Don Vito is associate producer and editor of this in depth look at the ground breakers and architects of the metal phenomenon that would explode in the ’80s.
The film includes interviews with Lars Ulrich of Metallica, Don Dokken, Michael Des Barres, Carlos Cavazo of Quiet Riot, Dave Meniketti of Y&T, Joey Vera of Armored Saint, and a host of others famous and nearly so discussing what the L.A. club scene was like back in the day, the impact of bands like Van Halen and Motley Crue as well as the various reasons Hollywood became the rock ‘n’ roll capitol of the music world. The documentary also features many rare photos and concert footage never before seen of artists like the late Randy Rhoads.
The film’s producers and director Bob Nalbandian have created a fundraising campaign to help get the film into theaters across the country. If you would like to contribute go to www.metalrockfilms.com. This is a piece of rock history that has never been accurately exposed. The story goes beyond nostalgia as it sets up why and how the music industry has become what it is today. The film will be shown in select cities beginning in November with a DVD release to follow.
Snew and Don Vito are currently in pre-production for the follow-up to their 2012 album ‘What’s It To Ya’, which featured L.A. Strip alumni Willie Basse on bass, and is available for purchase at snewyou.com
