Steve Lynch states Steve Plunkett declined Autograph reunion partly due to his voice not being up to it
Autograph‘s long-time guitarist Steve Lynch and new singer Simon Daniels recently did a “live” interview with the Facebook group “Love 80s Hairbands and Southern Rock Bands !! They Rock!!“ Autograph reformed about four years ago with original band members Lynch, Randy Rand (bassist) and Keni Richards (drums) along with Daniels. Richards was soon replaced by Marc Wieland.
Lynch and Daniels were asked what happened to the two other original members of the band to which Lynch stated: “It was actually 3. Steve Plunkett the singer declined the offer stating that his voice wasn’t up to it and his writing schedule was too hectic. Steve Isham the keyboardist died of cancer in 2008. Keni Richards the drummer was found shot to death in his home in Palm Desert California earlier this year…very sad…”
Previously, Lynch had indicated that the reason why Plunkett did not participate in the Autograph reunion was because he was too busy with his business projects. In an article published on Sleaze Roxx in January 2015, Lynch was quoted as saying: “We approached our original singer Steve Plunkett about a reunion… Unfortunately, he didn’t have the time to join the band again due to how busy his business is. He did give us his blessing to move forward though, and that was important. There are so many eighties bands out there touring and having fun with it. We were one of the few that hadn’t been out there. We missed our fans. This is for them.”
In an interview last year with Melodic Net, Lynch was critical of Plunkett when he was asked how it was working with the singer at the beginning and later on to which he replied: “It was good working with him at first because the band was based on a democracy in which everyone had equal say and creative input. That changed rather quickly when Plunkett started writing with outside people without our knowledge of it. It put a wedge between him and the band because he was trying to take a more leadership role, which we all disagreed with….”
